Tip One: Begin with the stone

When designing an engagement ring the central focus will most definitely be the centre stone, whether you go for a diamond, sapphire, emerald or any other stone you may love, you need to decide on the size that will suit your partners hand, and the shape you like best. Most of the price revolves around the centre stone, so ensure that you talk to one of our ring specialists to work out what would suit your budget best.

Tip Two: Find a setting to showcase your stone

With contemporary engagement rings there are many beautiful settings to showcase your stone, the most popular being a tension set: whereby the stone looks like it is effortlessly being held between two pieces of metal, allowing a lot of light to flood your beautiful stone.

Another very popular design is the all round rub over setting, also know as a bezel setting. The metal encasing the stones' outside creates a stunning clean line, emphasising the shape and beauty of the stone it is holding.

Tip Three: Go Bespoke

You really cannot beat a bespoke custom designed engagement ring, the possibilities are endless, you can incorporate aspects of your relationship into the design, making it truly unique to you and your partner.

For example, James came into our showroom and wanted to design a very modern engagement ring with an oval shaped diamond. James had very special memories of times he had spent on a boat with his partner, and wanted to customise his engagement ring design by taking features of the boat and bringing them into the setting.

Our designer Sophie worked with James to create this subtle detail around the setting of the stone, and the final outcome was a beautifully classic engagement ring with a very special meaning.
