The Diamond 4 C's

Carat

Now size is generally the first thing that comes to mind, diamonds gradually build up in size, the price however grows exponentially when you get to the popular sizes 1.00ct for example will jump up in price compared to 0.95ct so that is something to bear in mind is size of greatest importance.

Colour

Besides size, the colour is the next aspect of a diamond that you will visibly see when looking for a diamond, the diamond grade scale starts at colour D- colourless all the way down the alphabet to yellow, in white diamonds the main objective is to get the diamond to be as white as possible for your budget

Clarity

Clarity in short is the birth marks that each unique diamond has, these are not something that you will be able to see with your naked eye, but is a grading aspect that creates a well rounded and lovely diamond.

If size is not the be all and end all of your search, it's always wise to balance the characteristics of a diamond, some jewellers will mix up the 4 C's compromising on one aspect greatly in order to make up another e.g. E Si1 0.99ct, we however like to keep grading on a level playing field to ensure for a beautiful diamond in every aspect

Cut

Diamond Cut can mean two things with diamonds, in the most obvious way it means the shape that you would like to choose, this is based on the style of engagement ring you would like to propose with. However in technical diamond grading terms cut means the symmetry and polish of a diamond, this is often graded in Excellent, very good, good.

It is always advisable to stick around the very good to excellent and at Aurus our diamonds are always based around these grades, and although you will not visibly see these features, it all adds up to a lovely diamond when you stay at the higher quality grades.
